I absolutely love this new cover for Charles Bock‘s Beautiful Children. We had the pleasure of doing his web site and viral marketing video a few years back (see it here in our portfolio and the press release) and Charles has always had kickass swag for the book (guitar picks, posters, cassette tapes, etc.). Playing wonderfully off this theme, the paperback for the Dutch version of the novel has the above gorgeous cover.
This is the type of work I long to do.
Nearly all subway stations have inlays in the tiled walls for advertising. For over a century, these inlays have been plastered with wheat-paste and posters were rolled on top, only to be shredded off, re-plastered, re-rolled, and re-shredded, again and again. The resulting collage of color in this accidental artwork is often quite compelling.
Over the last decade, whenever I encountered one I really enjoyed, I snapped a photo. Mostly, I just put these on my Flickr “Textures” gallery, or temporarily use it as the wallpaper on my phone. But recently, I’ve been thinking of printing/framing some of them and hanging them in my apartment or giving them to friends as gifts. What do you think? A friend of mine, who used to intern for Mike Perry at his studio in Brooklyn, told me of the upcoming release of this book. I’m not really too much of a fan of his illustration or typography, myself, (I much prefer Jessica Hirsche’s work) but know that a few other [d]online readers mentioned that they were.
One of our favorite clients, with whom we were featured in HOW Magazine’s “Behind the Design: Brooklyn Style” section, asked me for a quick illustration of his storefront in Brooklyn to help enhance the old-time-y appeal of his new campaign. Below and attached is the illustration.
I came across these really wonderful illustrations (created by Christoph Niemann) by chance and thought you might enjoy them too.
